More, in store, around the corner

I’m currently enrolled in a training program for resiliency
Similar to the Texas Institute’s
Greenlake “hole-digging” program
This regimen employs hope abatement methods
And disappointment maximizing

The locals call it “subbing”
You travel around from school to school.
No one knows your name
And everyone ignores you
Until you stop showing up.

But I am learning to make the best of things
Learning to twist and enjoy the knife

"Life either grinds you down
Or polishes you up"

What makes the difference is your attention
Your stance
Your mindfulness

The diamond bit spinning above you
Pushing down on you
The g-forces always the same
Time wears away at us all
So do the random slings of fortune
WE get to choose how we take the spinning blade.

The angle of attack
Its focus
Make the difference between obliterating the best parts of ourselves
Or the worst

The laser sharp
Spinning blade
Can cauterize our wounds
Trim our fat
Free us from the excess pounds of disoptimism
Just as easily as it can rob us of hope.

Focus on the good.

Focus on the good things in life.
Because some days all you have is your breath.
You are practicing being brave
In the face of apparent hopelessness

The trick is in remembering that life is more than
just what you can see
more than
what you can grab

There is always more
In store

Around the corner
